?: How can we get horror fans and TV critics excited about FX’s first foray into the horror genre?
!: We can gradually reveal the mythology of a haunted house, unlocking clues one room at a time. The first season of American Horror Story is set in a home with a sordid history, so we teased horror fans with an interactive tour of the house at youregoingtodieinthere.com. We offered passionate fans a deeper level of engagement, inviting them to register for a chance to receive a unique artifact – a clue that would help piece together six decades of murder, lust, perversion and betrayal.
Fans progressively uploaded these clues to the rooms on the website and visitors to youregoingtodieinthere.com began to speculate about the horrific crimes that had taken place. Just before the premiere we unlocked the final room, the basement, where horror fans could watch a sneak peek of American Horror Story’s first episode.
